My hydraulics on my 8n raise and lower by itself while I'm brushhogging. It dosen't do it when the position control is in the down position only when it is 1/3 or higher. Any help will be appreciated.

What you have is a problem that can be solved.

I have compiled a pamphlett and fabricated a jig like we old Ford tractor mechanics used back in the 50s and 60s to adjust the lift on the 8N.
It is next to impossible to adjut the 8N lift properly the first time without a jig to use for a reference point.

If you want to learn more about the booklet and the jig to go with it Email me at Wzsherman@aol.com

As I recall the 8N and most all of the early Ferguson hydralic systems were designed to plow. The control sets the depth of the plow and regulates the depth from the pressure applied to the top link of the three point hitch.

Your 8N does not have what the newer Ford tractors have which is a position control in addition to the draft control. What you may be able to do if your top link hookup on the bush hog is solid and not hinged, is to adjust the top link so the bush hog hieght is correct when the contol is all of the way down. A stabilzer kit if you don't have one will help keep it level.

Hope this helps.

Your 8N has both draft and position controls. The position control is on the rt side under the seat.It is that little lever. The 8N had it and the 9N/2N did not. It and 4 speed tranny were some of the improvements ford made with the 8N
