SINCE GETTING MY 2N ABOUT SEVEN YEARS AGO I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A COUPLE OF HYDRAULIC OIL LEAKS. ONE IS AROUND THE BOTTOM LINK PINS ON BOTH SIDES AND THE OTHER IS AROUND THE LEFT HAND WHEEL/BRAKE HUB. THE LEAK AROUND THE HUB SEEMS TO BE MORE EVIDENT WHEN THE TRACTOR HAS JUST BEEN FILLED WITH HYDRAULIC OIL AND HAS BEEN USED A WHILE. HOW DO I CORRECT THESE PROBLEMS? ARE THEY SERIOUS OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT THE LEFT HAND BRAKE DOES NOT WORK (IT NEVER HAS SINCE I'VE HAD IT). ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Hey BIGDOG, When you clean up you brakes with what ever you use dry them down good and use talcum powder to asorb the oil that might be left. It really does a great job, it an old Dr. Zane trick thang you know. Hope this helps and lets all stay safe. Sincerly HOMEBOY

Here's a pick of my 50 8n, you can see the nut that holds the lower pin, the pins on the 8n are tapered, yours are not. Be carefull when removeing the axle houseing, the differental may want to come out with it and it's heavier than a truck load of coors lights!(-: As far as the axle seals, JerryU used those "Sure seals" and said they worked great.

hope this helps.

later,dave

Mr Dog, the hydraulic leak has soaked your brake shoe on the left side. You will need to replace it. I have also had pretty good luck baking the grease out of them using the mother in laws oven to heat them up enough to dry up the grease. Use a cookie sheet so they don't drip too bad. You should replace the seals on both sides. From a safety standpoint I would do it post haste. As far as the pins you might have good luck with some of the gasket in a tube products that are silicone based. They will temporarily stop the leaks. It is important to keep the oil level up where it is supposed to be. While you have it drained the pto seal could be replaced too if it is leaking. None of these are big jobs. good luck

The pins can be removed and sealed, if the holes are not too badly wallowed out. You have to pull the axle housings. The axle seal leaks have always been a problem. You can install "Sure-Seals", or any number of home remedies, including silicone. Some pundits recommend packing the bearings well with grease and using 1/2 quart less transmission/hydraulic fluid.
