I GUESS I HAVE ALWAYS ASSUMED THAT WHEN YOU BOUGHT SPARK PLUGS THEY CAME CORRECTLY GAPPED. I HAVE BEEN USING H-10 AND H-12 CHAMPION PLUGS FOR YEARS.
YESTERDAY I PUT IN AUTOLITE 437 PLUGS , BUT BEFORE I DID I CHECKED THE GAP AND FOUND IT TO BE AROUND 35/1000'S. KNOWING THAT THE GAP SHOULD BE 25/1000'S I REGAPPED THEM AND INSTALLED THEM. DID I DO THE RIGHT THING. THE OLD 2N RAN LIKE A CHAMP LAST NIGHT WHILE MOWING, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW FOR THE NEXT TIME IF REGAPPING IS ALWAYS NECESSARY?

You should always regap all the plugs as they may be bumped or dropped.I had an mishap years ago when someone put a set of plugs in that came right out of the box.The engine had a bad miss and the scope showed a bad plug. When i pulled it out i found that it had been dropped at some point ond there was no gap on the plug. Now they pack the plugs with a protective sleeve on the threads to help stop that from happening.

Yep, it's ALWAYS necessary to regap the spark plugs to the recommended gap for optimum engine performance.
