IF THE COOLING SYSTEM IS INDEED PRESSURIZED WHAT PROBLEMS WILL A LOOSE RADIATOR CAP CAUSE. THE SPLINES ON MY RADIATOR ARE, AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN BUNGED UP AND THE CAP JUST BARELY STAYS ON AT ALL.
WHAT PROBLEMS WITH THE PRESSURIZED SYSTEM CAN THIS CAUSE IF ANY. I HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY OVERHEATING TO SPEAK OF.

The 9Ns and I believe the 2Ns were non pressurized from the factory. I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, that the pressurized radiators started with the 8Ns. Now, the on the non pressurized systems, there was no cooling problems so I don't see why you would get one if your cap were loose. The pressurization ups the boiling point of the coolant. Since the Ns were noted for a massive cooling system and a 170 degree thermostat, it shouldn't present a problem. Many of the original 9Ns were retrofited with a pressure cap (mine included). Also, the pressure, so I'm told is on the order of only a few pounds vs. the higher pressure caps of todays cars (10-15 psi or so).

Well, that exhausts my knowledge and me. Time for a nap.

...and I thought you had one of the biggest collections of Ford Tractor books? :-)

The 2N tractors were manufactured with the pressurized radiator. At least that's "what I've read and what I've seen" in the "Ford Tractors" book by Pripps and Morland on page 35. :-) This page also has a pic of Palmer Fossum sitt'n on one of his beautiful tractors!!

As I said, I believed that to be true but was obviously wrong. Darn Alzheimers kicking up again :-). Must be from driving my tractor in the sun bush hogging doing some "real work" with my 9N.
