Some how my grille fell off, and in the cousre of putting it back on I nicked the radiator with a scredriver.....OUT POURS GREEN FLUID!!! I have never damaged a radiator before, and this one is like new. Can I just drain the fliud and braze the pin hole shut? Do I need a new radiator?
Thanks

Don't try to braze it! Clean it real good with emory cloth or the like and solder it using acid core solder flux, ruby fluid, (trade name) or any flux that contains zinc chloride. Soldering is hard for most people so drain, remove and position it to your advantage. Use 60/40 solder, okay. Move fins back out of your way to get to it. Won't hurt radiator any. Has to be perfectly clean for solder to take. Don't stack solder on, flow it on. Use a propane torch, the kind with a bottle screwed on is okay. Be careful how you lay it so as not to damage other side. Tape over bottom hose fitting (or plug) and fill with water when through. This is about the only test you can make to see if it leaks (without installing it). Gubble gum and loosening the radiator cap will work in a pinch to get you back to the repair shop. Some even pinch that tube closed with pliers and don't use that tube anymore, but if your radiator is real nice, don't do that. L8R----Fred

Thanks, I am pretty good at soldering, so I will try to do it still in the tractor.

Depends on how bad the puncture is. If it's just one spot, you can seal it up and not have any problems. If it's large hole in the core, you can get a new radiator for $200.00.

On the other hand, while my 2N had probably half of the radiator functioning when I bought it, I haven't noticed too much difference since I replaced the radiator.

I think you will have no problems soldering the radiator. I poked a Big hole (1/2 inch) in my radiator on my car two weeks ago while overhauling it. I took it to the radiator shop and he soldered it and pressure checked it all for $5.00. Took him less than 5 minutes. Good luck
