How hard is it to pull the hydrolic pump on my 8-N? Will I have to pull the pto also? Just wanting to know what I'm getting into.

You can also purchase a Ford & Ferguson Hydraulic Repair Video. This video features the 9N, 2N and 8N Ford plus the Ferguson 20 & 30 series tractors. This video will show you how to make the necessary repairs or adjustments or rebuild the hydraulic pump. It's produced by J&D Productions, Inc. I call them the "Al Borlan Group" because the 3 guys in the video are all wearing matching red check flannel shirts. :-)

You can purchase the video at this location:

First drain hydro fluid from all three plugs. Then remove the PTO Shaft. Next remove bolts on bottom of pump housing. Have a box under it to ease it down. No problema..

Adding to my own reply...When dropping the pump the gaske will probably hold it in place. But on the other hand it may not. Leave one bolt in on both ends then support the pump with block, two by fours etc. You do not want to hang the pump cante lever on one bolt. You may break the flange and that could ruin your day. when breaking the gasket loose, keep the support within a half an inch and use a putty knife on top of the gasket since the top side mates with cast iron. When removing the gasket from the pump do not gauge the mating surface. When replacing the pump, I permatexed it in place. It is best to have an accomplice er I mean helper to ensure that the position control rod ball end enters into the rocker cup. Remove the inspection plate that has the dip stick and have the helper guide the rod into the cup. If I remember correctly the rocker is spring loaded to one side so once it disengages it will probably not line up any longer..

That should read "permatexed the gasket in place" Obviously not the pump...
