So after two evenings of gutting the horrible 12V conversion on my 8N and installing my own, I get everything running perfectly, lights working too (my tractor was sans lights when I bought it) and I drive up to show off my newly working and enhanced toy...er....tool.... to my SO, who is madly fighting fescue in the garden.

I drive up, turn on the lights to highlight her beauty, and the tractor dies. Dead. Won't restart.

Not flooded. Disconnected my new lighting. Tried several other things. Dead as a doornail.

Finally gave up and decided to leave it for the night. Went around to perform my usual routine to shut off the gas and.....

ooops.

Already turned off.

For the record, there's just enough gas in your fuel line and your carb to make a fool of yourself in front of your girlfriend.

Worse than that, forget the gas shut-off at a show with a bunch of JD's around, and you'll really feel small, not that it happened to me or anything you know.

In 1950 took a young lady (first date) to the local drive-in movie in my 1928 Model A Ford. Got ready to leave - wouldn't start. Out of gas. She and I pushed the thing out of the drive-in (up and over, up and over etc.)down the street to gas staion, put in the usual $.50 worth. Still no start. Finally discovered during furious action at the movie, my knee had shut off the gas petcock under the dash. Our first and only date.

I know what you mean I barowed my dads truck one day. I ran out of gas in a intersection two guys got out of their cars and helped me push it out of the intersection. They offered to help but I told them no thanks you see I had just remerbed it had two tanks. as soon as they left I changed tanks and started the truck.

Not as bad as what I did. Back when I was a teenager, my Dad had a twin tanked diesel Chevy or GMC(I can't remember). I made the mistake of putting gasoline in the thing. It drove for about five miles and then it said.."I quit!" Oh Boy was he pissed. He is a Veterinarian and needed that truck bad. Boy, did I ever feel like a fool. That was about twenty years ago. I just found out last month from my brother , that my dad did the same thing some time later. He neglected to tell me though.(HA Ha). Dads will never change.
Ya'll have a good day.
