Borrowed a Dearborn plow from the in-laws.

Broke ground on the new vineyard.

Hi Rob,

I used a Dearborn 2-bottom plow, and a dearborn disk to break ground for my vinyard a year ago. It did a fine job. I have 6 rows around 250 feet long, enough for 200 wine grapes. In Illinois, you say? They are going strong here. We planted cold-hardy French hybirds developed in Minnesota.

Where are you located?

Next time, I'm going to hit the rows with RoundUp to kill the weeds, and use a subsoiler or middle buster to really break down the turf before I plow or rototill it. That way, weeds won't be a problem, and I won't have to weed whip the rows- a job I can do without.

Let me know if you wanna talk more about grapes.

Help! I have a couple of fence lines full of wild grapes, but they need to be trimmed before they will produce. I lived next door to an old German fellow when I was a kid who trimmed his every year and had scads of grapes. I don't know when or how far back to trim them looking for input. Sorry I know its not N stuff but I would appreciate some input. Thanks

I know I need an overhaul, but it has to wait past mowing season.

Now, that's what it should be...an 8N working away, exhaust in the air, land being broken, and a man on his tractor. looks like a fine day to be out there.
