I went to move the 8n yesterday, and for the first time it wouldn't start after the second or third crank of the motor. I re checked the fuel shut off, and went to fire it up....and the starter just spins. Thinking I might have a few bad teeth on the flywheel, I moved the tractor in gear with another vehicle. Still, the starter just spins and does not engage the flywheel. Any ideas? Can you hand crank the 8n?

i have found some n's will do this if the battary is low. try charging, or jumping if you have another 6 volt source. good luck.

After the starter is removed, make sure the ring gear on the flywheel isn't turning on the flywheel.----- --Michael

Rob, you probably need a new starter drive. They have the kind that doesn't require you enlarge the hole in your tractor's block. Any TISCO dealer will have the part# 52-11350C-PD on page F-3-4 of the part book.
