My wife and I grabbed a quick bite and went to the show. Extremely graphic and emotion stiring. Very subdued audience at the end and many in my age bracket in tears. Me too. Still get some Hollywood showing through but very well done. To those who served, I salute you.

I picked up my son at the airport last night. We haven't seen him since last July. He is stationed on the USS Nimitz in San Diego. He is going to be home for a week and then he will drive his new s.u.v.(85 GMC Jimmy) back to San Diego. Our daughter (his twin) came home for the weekend. She hasn't seen her brother for about a year and a half. Mom is really happy to have all her kids back home safe. Unless you have gone through it, you can't really understand how tough it is to see your kid go into the service. He has been in almost 3 years and it has gotten a little easier but I am looking forward to July 17,2003, the day he comes home for good. I know this has nothing to do with the post, I just had to share.

My son is a Sgt. in the USMC. 5 years, going on 20. I can't think of a better place for him to be, even though I miss him. He's at Camp Lejeune, only 45 miles away, so I don't know what I'll do if he goes on overseas duty. I'm proud of him and his green brothers and sisters in our 911 force.

I needed a couple of guys to do some remodeling for me about 25 years ago. They had been in Viet Nam. We talked a bit and the one thing that made me sick, and I know this was typical but to hear of a personal experience was doubley worse. He said the night he came home , he went to his local bar, you can imagine the pride he had going in. When he went in he was spat on. This was a little coal mining town in Pa. Not in Berkley California. Any blame on that war belongs in Washington, not with the loyal men who served. There was a wave of terrible propaganda going over the television nightly and there was never any blame put on the politicians who started it and who could have stopped it. Another friend of mine was a tunnel rat over in Nam. I get nervous just going into my garage at night. Can you imagine what those tunnel rats went through and then they had to come home only to be confronted by those bastards. This vet later committed suicide. It wasn't because of what he went through at home , he was too tough for that, but it was the horror of his war time experience. BTW Have you ever wondered were those long haired hippies went. They cut their hair and dissapeared into society, probable became politicians and school teachers. Sorry about the long post. I know there are thousands of similar experiences. Honoi Jane (Fonda) is the biggest traitor this country has ever had. I refuse to watch any of her movies. And I am glad that she was prevented, by the vets, from making a movie some years ago in New England. Her stanking on the Viet Cong AAA gun pointing to the sky as if she were shooting down an american and her with that smile. I'll never forgive nor will I forget. That's all from me, I'm going out to work on my tractor. I am really angry now. Damn her and the people like her.

The hard part is what you did in a place that wasn't your country in the name of Freedom, sometimes the things you had to do were not right but you don't get to training for this. War is not a good thing for anyone the after effect is sometimes worst then being there. Dissions made in a split second can haunt you for a lifetime. Mark H.

Right on Mark. I'm from north of the line and never had to go but it annoys me the little respect you guys were paid at the time, guess it wasn' trendy then.
That's all I got to say. Bob

Mark. Dont like to but into things that arn't my buisness and you may have figured by now I'm a bit out of step with mainstream. You are the second person I have talked to (one in person) who has said they were in Nam. The feeling I got from the other man was much as I felt of the situation. Seems we where not alone. Sorry for bringing it up again and more sorry for going back on my word not to. We'll talk tractors or somethin else next time.Bob

Got to see this movie just have to find someone in the family that will see it with me. They all say that I pick out all of the stuff that is not accurate and complain. I think that us retired military people have a hard time with some of the stupid things the hollywood put in shows. My version of S.E.A. is a lot different than what grunts saw as I was a Air Force Officer when I spent my 30 months in that part of the world. But thanks for the kind words.

The blame could be pointed at DC, but the news media ran rampant over every thing over in Vietnam, the slant they gave the public, the self righteous commentators sitting all cozy at their desks. I saw Finding Private Ryan, don't think I can handle another graphic war pic. john in nebr.
