I have my front axle apart to repair the pivot pin an bushing ,and notice, on the front axle support (cradle), that there was two broken spot welds. which sprung ,and now my new pin won't go threw all the way. i took an big c-clamp and could almost squeeze the two pieces back together, and the pin look like it would almost fit. I'm thinking that i could drill an hole nexts too each spot weld and tighten the two pieces back together, and then weld it. Has anybody have any experience with this repair, or maybe an different method to fix. thanks

I had the one on my 8N in the same shape and by the time I got it all lined back up the welds that were holding it broke and I had two parts! I sandblasted everything and drilled out the dimples with a 5/8" drill bit. I was able to line it all back up visually with the remains of the origonal welds and I plug welded all the holes with a 220 volt mig welder turned up nice and hot.

I am not sure about this but I wonder if the brackets on many of these get broken as a result of frozen water? My bracket was so packed with trash that I don't know how well it would drain water and it really looked like the welds were stretched before they broke.

I would try that. See if the pin will go through before you weld. The cradle may be sprung and you might have to heat and realign it. Watch you're radiator bolt mounting holes. I had a problem with that on mine. Then you could fill the bolt holes with weld.
