PTO disengaging

My PTO disengages when I mow through any tall grass or anything kind of heavy. You can feel the PTO lever bounce as the blades hit the rough stuff and then it disengages. I mow with a regular 5' mower.

Any ideas what I need to do to stop this from happening?

Thanks,

Barry

You PTO lever shouldn't move by itself. What may be happening is that the mower is occasionally "slamming" into the shaft when you break/hit a big bump/etc. The mower is still trying to go because of it's momentum. The shock effect back through the PTO may be knocking it out of position. That's very hard on your PTO/tranny/ and hydraulics.

You can by a special "chin@#dero" that will absorb this shock. Can't remember what it's called because I don't use mine for mowing, but tractor places know.

My 8N does this too. Mark H. siad to check if the pto shaft will move in or out even a little bit. I am waiting a new seal collar and will shim mine before I put it back together. I am afraid that the pto engagement mech on mine might be worn. I will try it with the play taken out first. If you get yours fixed, please let me know how you fixed it. I am going to be under the gun here soon with my hay growing like mad.

I probably won't get a chance to work on mine this week...bad weather coming. I'll post on here if I do find a solution.
