2N Starter Question

Do all 2N/9N tractors have the on/off key switch and the foot starter? I have what I believe is a 1945 2N and it has a key switch on it that starts the tractor. There is no evidence of an area, near where the gear shift is, that would be where the foot starter should be. We've checked a local parts store and they have the key switch and the foot starters for these tractors. Has mine been modified? I appreciate any and all responses as my mechanical knowledge is limited. Thanks!!!!

It's supposed to have an on/off keyswitch and a push-button at the base of the gear shift. The button is supposed to be part of a safety-lockout system for neutral-only starting. The button moves a bell-crank that pushes a rod that activates the solenoid below the battery. If it's an really early 9N, then it might have a dash-mounted starter button, which would be located to the immediate left of an on/off keyswitch. In no case would it have a multi-position starter switch. Someone has changed it. Is it still 6 volt pos ground or has it been converted to 12 volt, neg?

Thanks for your response. It is still the 6V system. The strange thing is that there is nothing on the dash or at the base of the gear shift that looks like an area where the push button starter would go. The serial # on the engine indicates it should be a 2N but I know alot of parts on these tractors were interchanged. Do you have any idea what was done to it? (probably hard for you to tell without seeing it) Any thoughts on whether I would be able to set it up for the on/off switch and push button starter? I'm going to the state meet for the Illinois Ford/Fordson Collectors Association tomorrow so I think I'll take some video of it and see if someone can take a look at it. I'm in Central Illinois and would like to hook up with some people that have these tractors.
