I have a 48 8N with a 12 volt conversion that was done before I bought the tractor. The fan belt is a 4L cross section to fit the alternator pulley but the crank pulley is a 5L pulley as is the water pump. is this a common problem with 12 volt conversions as the alternators have 4L pulleys on them. Any information would be a help. Thanks. P.S. The belt slips in the original tractor pulleys.

Replace the 4l pulley with a new pulley for the 6 volt "n" generator. You may need to modify the hole in the pulley to fit the 12 v alt. but it is worth it. "V" belts are designed to drive with friction on the sides not the bottom, that's why it slips. New pulleys are available from various sources for about $25.00.
