I think I just don't run it often enough. How important is the coil resistor? That's one thing I haven't changed. Was running OK last month. I've got fire in the coil wire but little in the plug wires.

Bishop..... ....If you have a resistor and you have fire in the coil wire, then the resistor is GOOD. If the resistor was bad, (and they go bad like lightbulbs, quit working) you wouldn't have any sparkies in your coil wire. Understand???

And if you really do have a resistor, What is it doing in a '52 8N??? Are you certain it is a 6 volt sidemount 52 8N? Early 8N's had the frontmount distributor and required the "infamous ballast resistor" mounted on the backside of your dashpanel. Are you certain you know what you're talking about? I flunked mindreading, just ask my ex-wife of 32 yrs..... .....respectfully, Dell

I vote that the wire going into the distributor should be replaced along with the insulator.
And as "bg" stated there is no resistor on a 6v system with a side mount distributor.

Your 52 should not have a resistor, assuming this is not a 12 volt conversion, in which case, all bets are off. If the coil is good, and the condensor is good and the points are opening and closing and you are using copper plug wires and not radio-suppression wires, and the rotor is clean and the cap contacts aren't corroded, and the primary wire terminal is insulated, and the plugs are gapped right, and the battery is strong and the genrator is working and your voltage regulator is working, and all connections are clean bright and tight, and all the primary wiring is sound, then you should have fire at the plugs. Since you did not report as to what you had checked after your last post, it seems that it would be a good idea to recheck everything. I'm still voting for the insulator on the primary terminal of the distributor or a bad condensor.
