I just became the proud owner of another N that belonged to my neighbor. It was at a repair shop and the mechanic said it had a knock in it after running for a while. I am more concerned about the stuck clutch. I intend to take my time and do this right, so my question is, should I just go ahead and replace the clutch with a new one since the tractor has been sitting outside for about three years at least? Or try to break it loose without splitting the tractor? I found an entire clutch kit, not rebuilt, and brand new for $135.00. Thanks much in advance, Rob

You ain't gettin' me to spend 1/2 day splitting a tractor (and the skin on my knuckles) over saving $135. Do it right with new parts and don't forget to check your ring gear, surface of flywheel, and replace the PTO shaft seal.

Rob..... ...what Steve said..... ..and.....
Remove (4-bolts) and use your tranny input shaft to install your new clutch disc. Replace your tranny input seal ($3 cheap) while you got it out..... ..Dell

I would first try to unstick the clutch with a few of the methods in the archives. If that does not work, split the tractor and at that time based on the condition of the current clutch, make the decision to replace it.

Split the tractor and take a look at the clutch and presure plate. All these tractors sit out side for most of there life. If bad replace it if not save your money for other parts that will need replacing. A little rust on the flywheel will hold the clutch from spinning but nothing could be wrong with it. Mark H.
