Got the sleeves honed as there was not much wear and new ones are $225- each. Machine shop is also grinding the valves, again not much wear. Yanmar wants $72- for each set of rings $144- total and they will take four weeks to come from JA Pan and company. The purests like to use OEM parts but I can probably get a set of four Hastings rings for $80-. Any opinions on using other than Yanmar parts would be appreciated. BC Mike C

Only if you are rebuilding a Yanmar or a Deere engine. Just kidding, Hastings is a top line producer of rings for any manufacturers engines. I fully doubt that anyones restored N has OEM rings, bearings, sleeves, valves etc., just no originals out there any more.

Thanks Gaspump. Everyone else must agree with you as yours is the only reply. I figured Yanmar has to buy the rings from someone and it could be Hastings. I just looked at the old rings again and they are not what the manual shows. So if I can get some Hastings rings that will fit, that's what I am gonna use. BC Mike C

email me at work jcox@megavolt.com i'll see if I can find out from a sister company what brand yanmar is using. the other company buys the eng components in bulk, and then packages a rebuild kit. let me know what engine too. BTW Deere uses yanmar, kawasaki New Holland uses ishikawajima say that fast three times! Case used alot of mitsubishi before the CNH buyout of 1999, don't know what they're doin nowadays. Caterpillar uses TONS of mitsu (does mitsu have a piece of that pie?) Mustang skid steers (better than bobcat) use yanmar too.
have a good day
