When I am at full throtle my AMP meter is showing 30+ Amps. Is this right, or is my voltage regulator shot?

I agree with Ron, check and see if the meter goes to zero on engine shut down. Here's an easy test. remove the field lead from the Gen. Start it back up, and see what the meter says. If it's at zero, then your VREG is bad, if it's still at 30, either your meter is not so accurate, or you may have a field winding shorted to ground inside your generator
hope we've helped

If it reads 0 at engine stop then meter is probably OK. If charging at 30 a constant then you may have a problem. Could be a weak bat, dirty conections, bat low on acid, bad regulator overcharging. The previous are all reasons that a amp guage is rather useless to tell you what is wrong. A volt meter will tell much more than amp meter alone if you have only one gauge. If 6 v it should be charging at 7 to 8.25 volts, 12 v should charge at 13.5 to 15 volts. You can better judge a problem with volt meter but you still need to understand DC electricity and the battery charging system. Check the things I listed for possible problem. Overcharging can actualy lead to a bat exploding like a bomb. You don't w2ant to be near if that happens, especialy as close to gas tank as it is. Ron
