Proud new owner of an 8N! I also got the Ford rear scoop. Problem is that I'm not sure exactly what it can and cannot be used for. If I point the bucket so it opens toward the tractor and draw with it, how deep will it dig? How deep should it dig? Or should this thing be used only to scoop piles of dirt/gravel?

thanks

My scoop has been far more valuable than I ever thought it would. It's great for carrying rocks, manure, gravel, dirt, lumber or just about anything that can fit in the bucket. Most loose items are easily picked up when moving in reverse. As far as digging is concerned, its most effective when pulled. We've got some fairly heavy rocky, clay soil here and I've had a great deal of success stripping top soil and digging. In fact, it really showcases the power of the 8N. I started digging a small pond last fall and intend to work at it some more once the ground drys out a bit. Dumping is a little cumbersome using the rope as there is insufficient leverage, but I have some ideas on how to improve it. I can't wait to get out and put it to use again.

i think your best bet for using it is buy an hydraulic top link so you can scoop and dump easyier.

Love my reversable Ford dirt scoop. We use it to haul stuff, move dirt, dig shallow trenchs.... mostly use it to work backward. If you get good with it, it gets real handy. We have an adjustable top hitch, and that comes in handy with it, too. Lets you point it down to dig and up to haul stuff.

I saw a video of three 8N's using rear scoops to build a pond. You can adjust the amount (depth) you want to dig by changing the length of the top link. The scoop filled up in twenty or thirty feet of travel.

Be careful when backing into solid objects as you could do some damage to the lower lift arms and their attachment pins.

You will find no end of uses for your new scoop equiped 8N

N - joy.
