Rear Tire patch

When I got my 8N home, I noticed a huge gauge in the rear tire. It shaped like an "L" and is about 1" across. It's about 3/4" deep and appears to go down to the tube. (It doesn't leak air). Can this be filled or patched enough to prolong the life? I'll be using this tractor mainly for mowing pasture this summer. The tread is nice and I actually thought the tires were a plus when I first inspected them. It could've been parked on the hole.

Rob, I know this responce is a little late but don`t be afraid to have it booted,we had a JD A on the farm when I was a kid that had a break large enough to put your finger in and touch the boot. It was still on the tractor when we sold it, and it had run for ten years on the farm. The tire shop should have a product that will seal the out side of the tire too.

Find a good farm tire repair business. I have had booted tires and a tire vulcanized (years ago). I have also seen a large sidewall cut "sewn" with heavy plastic cable ties. It looked ugly but it worked for years.

Sounds like you need what is called a BOOT. It's a nice "repair doubler" that goes on the inside between the tube and tire..... It gives extra character to the wounded tire and protects the tube.

The 'cure' is a new tire.....
