Tried to remove orginal hub to rim bolts today.
Snapped the first one off of course.
It looks like that is what will happen with all the remaing bolts (positive thinking gone). I want to line up up some replacements. Rims are orginal, can I buy replacement carriage bolts locally or must I Buy from the Ford dealer? What size of bolt is required. Tried knocking broken bolt out of Hub Rim etc(to get dimensions etc) but it is frozen rusted solid of course.
Any tips of loosing bolts and getting removed would be greatly appreciated ! The orginal Rim is rusted through, however I have a line on a used orginal style rim. Thks Bill

'Bout ten years ago I went through this and used carriage bolts from the local hardware store. No problems to date and I do use the tractor to do work and I have antifreeze/water loaded tires.

If you will heat each nut until it is red hot and then let it cool to room temperature you can remove them with no trouble no matter how rusted they are. The red hot consumes the rust and oxydized iron and you will have plenty of room for the threads then to move.

I did this this past fall. I would get the bolts from your local New Holland dealer. mine had them in stock. they are knurled on the rim end to keep them in place. I beat mine out with a 5lb sledge with a piece of solid steel round stock. I also replaced my brakes at the same time as long as I was at it. getting the new bolt in was tricky, I rotated the axel until it fit through. you will see what I'm talking about when you get it torn down. I asked the same question at my tire dealer about using a carrige bolt and he said he wouldn't do that, he said to order it. I don't think they were more than a buck or two.
