Spent the afternoon using my finish mower in the pasture and when I was done, I was unable to get the PTO level in neutral. Tried for 20 minutes with no luck. Has worked perfectly in the past. Any tips or tricks before I tear into it?

Thanks.

Your going to have to pull that left side inspection plate ( the one with the pto lever) I think you will see your problem, good luck .

Greer..... ....If you've been brushoggin' without an Over Running Clutch on your PTO shaft, your brushog has probably "twisted" your PTO shaft. (ORC $60, cheap)

You might get lucky and findout that your PTO shifter mechanism is bad. From slipping lever set screw, to missing detent ball, to broken shifter lever. All things you should be able to visually inspect.

But first you need to drain all 5 gals of hydro-tranny oil so you can see it. Start with the square diffy plug first. The the 3" hydro plug, then the 3" tranny plug.

Remove your 6" hydro-dipstick plate so you can see the PTO shifter lever mechanism and watch it move. The shifter lever is a dogleg that fits in a slot in the PTO shifter rail and is not connected to anything. Therfore you can remove the PTO shifter lever with the 6" round plate..... .AFTER you visually inspect for operation from the dipstick port.

If you truely unlucky and have a twisted PTO shaft, you will have to "saw" your pto shaft outta the tractor so you can drop the hydraulic pump to remove the locked up section from back of tranny.

Get out your I&T FO-4 manual ($29 cheap)..... ..Dell

Del. I've wondered why, when draining the transmission, it is necessary to drain all three outlets in sequence as you mentioned? Ron

The usual explanation is:
Start with the small plug first to get a controled flow and then the two larger plugs to get all of the oil from the different sumps.

I do have a ORC and a manual. Will take off inspection plate and see what it looks like.

Thanks for input.
