I am installing a new Voltage regulator on my 1950 sidemount 8N. There was no rubber insulation on the mount of the old VR, and I am wondering if I should rig up some kind of insulation between the new VR and the mount plate. Was there originally an insulator there? The new VR has three prongs: Bat. Arm. and Field. I assume that the ground wire from the gen. goes to the mounting screw of the VR? Does this sound logical/correct? Thanks for any suggestions or comments on my questions!!--Rob

Rob..... ...the early 8N voltage regulators were mounted on rubber baby buggy bumpers to assorb the shock and vibration of off-road tractorin' to the delicate innards of the presumed "fragle" early voltage regulator.

Design changes of the voltage regulator "ruggedized" it and they no longer needed to shockmount the voltage regulator. A side effect of the rubber shockmounts was the need to provide ground continuity from the generator to the voltage regulator...thus...the ground wire from the genny to the voltage regulator mounting plate. I usually use one of the voltage regulator mounting screws to ensure I have the best grounding possible between genny and V/R.

Bottom line.....no need for rubber mounts ennymore but still need the ground wire between genny and V/R..... .....Dell

Thanks Dell....Once again! Don't mean to repeat myself, but I really appreciate you and everyone else being patient with me. I think I almost have this rewire finished. With a little bit-o-luck I won't fry anything else!---Rob
