I have one and I'm trying to figure a value and determine if it's any good. It's on a tractor that hasn't ran in years and I don't want to spend the money to get it running just to see how the tranny works because someone got the pto shaft off it, for starters. Any particulars about this tranny so I know what to check in a visual inspection? Any wear limits on the gears, stuff like that? I don't want to break the tractor to discover the tranny is unservicable. This 8N is an excavator model with the front blade and the little hydraulic valve and switch under the seat.

Rob,

I have one too. I have`nt messed with it lately; been busy fixing the loader tractor.

I traded for what was left of a `48 8n. no wheels; engine & trans in one piece { with EVERETT trans still attached. the rear end was scattered around in pieces. That`s where I found the coupler to fix the 9n.

Anyway I hav`nt been able to get the EVERETT off the 8n 4speed. The covers had been off both transmissions; no standing water, but still rusty gears.

There was an extra 8n rear axle in the deal; It had the Bombardier Half track arms still on it.

He threw in an old original Dearborn Jack, with the front part to lift all 4 tires off the ground at once.

was able to save the block and crank and rods and head, and pan.

better quit for now

Speaking of the Jack, has anyone made one of these? I love the idea of the tractor lifting itself up by it's "bootstraps" as it were.
