Don't let that tricyle front end paranoia scare you off. This is the most misunderstood topic on the tractor boards. We have used tricycles for years on our hills without a problem.

This topic comes up "periodically" (about once a month) on "Tractor Talk" so there is no use going into it further here. I'll just repeat that the people who brand NF tractors as unstable are either engineers or people who have never had any experience with them.

Everyone who lives around me who has an old tractor has a tricycle tractor so they must not be too bad. My grandad only turned over his big tricycle JD twice in 30 years (my uncle once)before he traded it.

Need to check the model number. 900 was the series could be 940, 950 or 960 the 960 is a bush hogging fool, as the 960 has the 5 speed tranny and two stage clutch. Tricycle is tippy on rough terrain but as mentioned it may have the optional wide front end. I have the 960 with the wide front end, a really fine tractor, twice the 8N in a slightly larger package.

Big Boy..... .....hadda lookitt up, model 900 was 1957 tri-cycle with 45 hp red tiger engine. Its principle design was for vegatable rowcrop tillage.

In my opinion, tri-cycle tractors are NOT my first choice for pasture mowing with brushogs. ALL tri-cycles are notoriously unstable on uneven and hilly ground, which is typical pasture ground..... ..... I'd pass, Dell

Sounds like a nice buy to me if motor and rest of tractor is generally in good shape. Only concern I have is the "tri-cycle" front end and wondering what kind of terrain you have. I was always afraid of those tricycle type tractors and the possibility of rollover. Unless this 900 has a retrofitted wide front end.

Good luck,
Tyman
