My Fiancee's uncle has an old tractor that he uses for light duty on their farm. I need help identifying it. He said that he thought it was a 1959 model massey ferguson. But then he said that it has live hydraulics and live PTO. Did Massey fergusons come with live everything in 1959? The reason I am trying to identify this tractor is this: he was telling me how good his bushhog was, He said that even after you hit the clutch, it'll drive the tractor forward. Sound familliar? I asked him if he had an ORC, and he said "What's that?" Sooooo , to butter up the old man I was thinking about picking him up an ORC and putting it on his tractor for him, but I don't know what size his PTO is! Also, my 8N came with one, so I don't know how hard they are to put on. Can you guys help me out?

Well, I have a Massey "65" built in 58,,,,live PTO, 2 stage clutch, 1 3/8 PTO shaft. However if it were a 65, I'm not sure you would on this board...It's a much bigger tractor. Not MUCH, MUCH, but enough. Could be a 50 or 35...
Hope this helps a little,
Adam P

Rob before you rush off to buy that ORC take a little time to check the clutch linkage. It may have another adjusting hole for the 2nd stage clutch, Later Fords do and I think the Furgies too. The purpose is if you are not in need of the two stage clutch you can save wear and tear on your clutch foot and save the second clutch as well. If it is equipped with an operating two stage clutch no ORC is required. You would have a pretty thin coat of butter if you put an ORC on a tractor that has a two stage and didn't need it!

I just looked at a MF50 for sale. It has live pto, live hydraulics and was built in '58. It may have a serial number tag on the dash above the steering column. There will be a series of letters (probably 3) before the number. They will call out things like dual clutch, row crop, diesel or gas, etc. The guys on the MF board will be able to help you decipher it from there.

I'm guessing he has a Ferguson TO-35 Standard, as opposed to the Deluxe. The 35 has two speed tranny, six forward, two reverse. The Deluxe has a two stage clutch, but the Standard does not. They both have position control and live hydraulics, but the Standard does not have live PTO. The PTO shaft should be 1 3/8, if indeed that is what he has. (It is not the same size as the 8N.)

I have a TO35 with live PTO & hydr. The book indicates live hydr. come with live PTO only. This makes sense because the pump is in the rear like a 9/2/8n, where as the jub, 600-800 have live pump on the cam shaft. BURT.

Well.. without knowing specifics... bottom line.. if he hits the clutch and the pto doesn't stop at all.. id say independent pto... if he hits the clutch and it stops as the energy disipates... no 2 stage clutch.. no live pto.

Live hyds I can believe... 53 fords had it.

Don't know on the pto size... I'm not a MF owner.

good luck.

( by the way... that is a nice thing you are doing for the tractor and the old guy... )

Most ORC's install pretty easy.. usually a grease fitting that comes out, line up the holes in the pto shaft and the orc.. install a roll pin, reinstall the grease fitting, grease, then check by hand to make sure it ratchets ok.. then have at it. May want to check to see that the pto shaft still has enough clearance after the ORC is installed... don't want the shaft to bottom out when the 3pt lift is up and damage the pto on the tractor or the gearbox on the bushhog..
