Repair Radiator Cap?

I searched the archives and saw where most 8N's blow off all extra coolant so the level stays just above the core. That's all fine and that's where mine stays. But I don't believe the old cap holds any pressure. So here's the question: do I refurbish the cap ($15 @ Dennis C.) get a new cap ($12) or just leave the darn thing alone? BTW, I don't know if there's a thermostat in the neck or not. TIA, wc

Just drive to your local New-Hol-land dealer, cap around $8.00, upper hose around $4.00 and the thermostat is a little more, there should be plenty of dealers near you in MD.

Just squeeze that upper hose up from the head about 2-3 inches. If there is a thermostat in there, you will be able to feel it. If not, then you should consider getting one. Just my opinion...Ron

This cheapskate keeps 1/16" red rubber gasket mat'l around anyway. I cut a new gasket and glue it in the old cap with Loctite Stick N Seal. That seems to be a handy glue. Kind of a cross between the old model glue and silicone. Must cost me 25-cents and 15 minutes. Maybe less.

You gots to have the thermostat. I suppose it all depends on how original you want to keep your N, as to how you fix the cap. They aren't all that expensive either way you go.
