Taken from a dealer's website: Here is a little personal experience that cost me a lot of embarrassment and $750. Within a period of less than 2 seconds.

Be very careful NOT to raise the box blade without the TOP LINK being secured in place. If you do, the ripper teeth will suddenly swing forward and destroy the both rear tractor tires and anyone's leg that is standing in their path

Hi Rob, sorry to hear of your misfortune but at least you or anyone else didn’t get hurt.

Several years ago, I was going to use my 3-pt hitch boom pole to move some logs. I was distracted by a visitor while connecting the boom pole and I forgot to put the lower linchpins in the boom pole. When the visitor left I proceeded with my task. As fate would have it, the 8N’s 6-volt battery was low and she wouldn’t crank. So, I got her started rolling down a slight incline to jump start it and she fired right up; I had her in 4th gear and the bouncing around caused the lower part of the boom pole to come out of the lift bar holes. The result was the boom pole hit the ground with the top hitch connected and the long end of the pole flew up and hit the fender with enormous force just to the right of my head. If it had hit me in the head I would have, most likely, met my maker. I guess it wasn’t my time to go, thank God. Rick H. Ga.

Several years ago they made a hydraulic center link. You could adjust your cut with your box blade with a hyd. control. A man in our neighborhood that graded yards had one and the hyd. cylinder failed while he was backing up. Instant destruction of his tires. I think about that every time I'm pushing dirt backwards with my boxblade.
