Coil/resistor failures

We cussed and discussed coils failing and whether an undetected bad/weakened/failing resistor causes those too often failures. We got to the point that a resistor doesn't fail to less resistance and that a higher ballast resistance value caused by dirty connections would mean less current flow and that would not cause coil failures.
Yesterday a guy posted about low batt voltage and whether that is a problem for his wench and sprayer pump. My experience is that low voltage will cause high operating temps and shorten the life of an electric motor. Both an electric motor and a coil are inductive loads.
So know I'm thinking that if the resistor voltage drop is increasing then the coil is operating on a lower voltage and is in the same condition as an electric motor operating on a low voltage that will overheat and fail before it's time.
I guess the current in that circuit is suppose to drop off because of a higher resistance and that should have the effect or protecting the coil but I KNOW that you will burn up a motor running it on a low voltage.
You tweats out there need to 'splain this to me.
Anyway I'm still gonna say change out that resistor if you have a coil failure and it won't hurt much to field strip and clean up that resister block assy every few years.
