The carburetor on the 6X model ford tractors with the three cylinder engines is not very well engineered. It has an excelleration pump and as you know a tractor should not have an excelleration pump because the governor is constantly moveing the throttle back and forth so the pump in the carburetor wears out pretty fast and when you get a kit to rebuild the thing there is no parts to fix the work out acceleration pump. When you let out the clutch the engine will hesitate badly on every one that I have ever seen since they were new. The pump is all metal and is vacuum operated and to sum it up the carb is a piece of junk.

Just replaced my 8N with a 3000 and like the movie said--i'm on top of the world! Go for the 8 speed tranny with a live PTO and stay away from the select-0-speed(SOS) tranny. Parts are more expensive than the N's and unless you have a big farm equipment dealer close you will have to order most of your parts. The only weak spot on them that I am aware of is the PTO portion of the two-stage clutch i.e.when you push the clutch in all the way the PTO does not stop. As I found out the other day the hydraulic pump can be a bear to prime as well, have been trying to get mine primed for two days! By the way I payed $3400 for mine, front end is dinged (bent in), had to rebuild the carb, the PTO part of the clutch did not work, poor rear tires and there was a small oil leak where the hydraulic pump meets the engine--of course replacing a gasket between the pump and engine is a breeze. But, repriming the pump is a whole nother story!

I agree with the others.. the 3000 is a great tractor. Around here you see them go for 4000-6000 depending on their condition. Lots of little landscape contractors use them to do loader work and lot grading, etc.

The 3000 is a great tractor. It has about 40 to 45 hp, is much heavier than other models, and the 3 cylinder is a great, simple engine (I have a diesel). You should look for one with an 8 speed, live pto and PS. Good luck

Ford 3000 is a great tractor. I've seen good ones go as high as 6000. Not sure what a tko is unless you mean "take off". If I didn't have the Jubilee and could find a 3000 in good shape, I'd buy it. Many of them had high and low range transmission, live PTO, much better brakes, some had power steering and could handle a loader well.
