no spark - bad coil?

Ford 8N, sidemount 6-volt system. I don't have any spark to the plugs. I've "followed-the-volts" like suggested here. Everthing looks fine until I get to the coil. I have 5 volts going into the coil and only 3 volts coming out of the coil to the distributor.

Any suggestions? Replace the coil? How much of a voltage drop off is there usually associated with the coil. I have plenty of gas to the carb. I've just got no sparkie.

thanks

Dell,

You are good...

I bought new points (0.025" gap) and she fired right up. She runs fine a low throttle but as soon as I rev up the throttle she misfires badly.

Since I recently replaced the distributor cap, plugs and wiring I thought I'd double check the wiring and I got her hooked back up right 1,2,4-3 CCW. Maybe the timing is bad. No timing light so I'll have to static time her.

thanks for yer help

Rob..... ....You should have about 6.3 volts (battery volts) on BOTH sides of your sidemount roundcan coil when the points are open. And about ZERO (0) volts when your points are closed..... .you have about 3 volts when your points are closed..... .you've got burned points..... ..replace yer points (gapp'em 0.025) and condenser (save your condenser 'cuz even new condensors can be bad outta the box)

Unless, you've got a drastically discharged 6 volt battery, you've got gunked up ignition switch terminals..... ..replace your ignition switch 'cuz yer loosin' 1.3 volts..... .....respectfully, Dell
