OT- Grass Catcher

I have one of those Agri-Fab lawnmower tow behind grass catcher/chippers. Last week I was mowing with it and it was really hot and it started to miss, so I shut it down thinking it was overheating (possibly vapor locking). Well, now the darn thing won't start. I only tried to trouble shoot it for about 20 minutes before I got really aggravated and quit. I did determine that it wasn't getting any spark. By the way, this is a briggs 8hp rope pull motor. There is a kill switch on the chipper cover, and when I monkeyed around with it, I got it to fire and run beautifully for about 2 minutes, then it quit again. I tried jumpering the switch off (cheating it out) but it still wouldn't restart. Now my arm is tired of pulling and the sweat is running in my eyes and my glasses have 100 layers of sweat and gunk all over them and the mosquitoes are having me for lunch by this time. So I figured I'd ask those who probably have been there and done that, before I get carried away by a big mosquito. Could the points have slipped? Condenser failure? Magneto gone south? Have I just not given enough attention to the infamous safety kill switch? Did I mention that this thing is only 6 months old? Thanks for any help!!!----Rob

Start by pulling the plug and smelling for flooding. If so, dry her out a little by letting her sit w/o plug. Turn off gas and see if you've got spark with plug out but hooked up. Next, check gas supply and any filters. No sediment, right? Next, after previous stuff looks good, get some starter fluid and squirt it into plug hole. Does it run now?

That idea is actually in the original owners manual. It recommends fillg up the tank at the end of the day, both to save time and eliminate condensation.

Sounds like the problem is related to your kill switch, is it shorting out somehow?
