My uncle owns a 1939 Ford 9N. He was interested in selling it and wanted to what it's worth. I know for a fact that the serial number is around 260 but not quite sure. The tractor has an alluminum hood that is in good shape. He also has an extra dash for it. The tractor runs and drives well but it has a flat tire on the rear and needs just about everthing to be restored. I am not quite certain on the history but i think that he knows the person who drove it off of the train car new. Could any one tell me what it is worth.

You have the start of a good restoration. I bought one similar to what you are describing with the serial no 292 about 5 years ago. Paid $4500. You look all over the country for one of these and then I found this one 7 miles from my home. Rather than load it on a trailer, I just put in gas and drove it home! The alum hood has pieces missing where it bolts to the dash. The grill and dog legs were not alum, no rivit rear wheels...the list goes on and on. I found a fellow that rebuilt the hood to new condition and even polished it! About $900. (super Job) Bought repro grill and dog legs Around $800. Also smooth axles, "peanut" generator, and MUCH more. When finished I expect to be close to $10,000. plus many hours of labor....For a ford tractor restoration project it doesn't get any better than this!!

Austin, I am sorry I took your post to be offering the tractor for sale. The value is difficult to pin point, but I would pay between $2000-$4500 at least depending on how complete the tractor is and in particular the alum parts. I have extra 32" rims, double ribbed fenders, alum dash, etc. The alum parts are real hard to find. In the case of my 9n141 I bought it in Florida and shipped it to Ont, Can. I had to buy another tractor to get good double ribed fenders, another to get smooth hubs, also bought recored orig. rad @ Wengers in Myerstown PA, had to buy small orig. generator, had to replace front wheels & hubs ( wrong size), had to buy orig. 4 spoke steering wheel ( "SHELLER"). I am now 3yrs into this project and think we are ready to start restoration. I think it will take 8-10000 to complete this project.Hope this helps. BURT.

I've heard that the aluminum hood alone is probably worth what a run-of-the-mill 9N will normally sell for. 9N254 lives in my neighborhood and is owned by the man who bought it used in 1946 after he got back from WWII. No, he won't sell and neither will his son when he passes. It has aluminum hood, dash, snap in battery lid, but riveted hubs. He still has the 32" wheels, too, but they rotted out years ago. He has 28" wheels on it now. Whatever your uncle decides he wants for it, pay it and keep it in the family.

Austin. You just may have found a jewel in the rough. In your case it may be worth whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay. I just had one donated to me serial # 1500, motor runs and sounds very good, but has a lot of other problems, which I'm working on. Mine doesn't have the aluminum grill and hood. I wouldn't even guess what it is worth, but in this case it looks like it may only be worth to your uncle what you are willing to pay for it, of course using average 9N sales prices. They vary greatly in different parts of the country. In my area,a running 9N in fairly good shape will go for between $1500 and $2500, sometimes more, depending on the purchaser. A friend that is in restoration, parts & sales of N's just bought a 8N with some implements, that is in running condition, pretty good rubber on the rear, for $350. Good luck in your purchase. Ron

Austin,

A friend of mine just bought a '39 9N (sn:7006-B) with the 2 bottom plow, bush hog, belly mower, disc and drag harr for $2200. It smokes really bad, needs a new tire and has NO brakes, but everything else seems to work okay. We kinda guessed that the attachments were worth most of the asking price and are aware that we have a rebuild ahead of us this winter. The metal on the old tractor seems to be in fairly good shape. Since the tractor just stayed with the farm (for the extra $2200), I can't say if the price is in line with the current market or not. Just thought this might help.

Hi Austin-
No need to tell you that the low serial number is valuable in itself. It would make a perfect restoration project or a museum piece. Dwight Emstrom owns s/n 9N16 and Marv Baumann just got a '48 8N with s/n 8N275. I believe Palmer Fossum owns serial number 9N357 also. It's hard to put a price on a piece of history, is your uncle thinking of selling it?
