I pulled the hood in my 8N yesterday to replace the upper radiator hose, and patch the hole in the top of the gas tank. I also flushed the radiator, and changed the oil, and cleaned the oil bath air cleaner. Then I ran by TSC and picked up a new fuel shut off valve. To make a long story short, I got everything back together and took her for a spin around the yard and came back to the garage to check for leaks and found the new fue shut off valve was leaking from the valve wheel (by that I mean the circular knob that you turn to shut the gas off and on). So now I am really ticked off, because I striped one of the threads in the tank getting this thing in and I really don't wanna take it back out. The only position in which it won't leak is the totally shut off position, which is unproductive. Any suggestions as to how I can fix this thing? Thanks again for all your help!!!--Rob

There's supposed to be a hole in the top of the tank, it's a vent hole.

Rob..... ...there is a sealing gland packing nut behind the round turn'em-off wheel. tighen it a little, too much and you can't turn the valve off, a necessity with your N's gravity fed fuel system..... ...Dell

Dell, As always thank you for your reply, and sharing your knowledge and helpin me out. Here's where I don't follow you. When you say that the little sealing gland nut is behing the turnem off wheel, do you mean that nut on the back side of the assembly, or inside of the assemble, literally behind the wheel? Sorry for not getting it the first time. I never claimed to be quick on the uptake :) --Rob

If it's anything like my sediment bowl, there is one fitting that screws directly into the bowl housing. Then there is a second "nut" that screws onto the outside of the first fitting. Then you have the shaft and then the wheel. The first fitting holds the shaft to the housing, and the second is the "seal". Hope that helps. Your setup may be slightly different, but you get the idea.
