9N Brake Problems

I have read many of great posts about the 9N brake and seal installation, but before I dive into that project I need to be sure that is what I have to do. My right brake peddle only works if a 400lb man jumped on it and the left brake does not move at all. I just did a major overall on the electronics, clutch, carb and flywheel ring because the tractor had been sitting for about 5 years. Also, there does not seem to be any leaks on the axle. Please help.....

Rob, Do what I did: buy the video (listed at the left of the screen) on brake repair for the 9/2/8N tractors. It's $24 and is well worth the cost. The only thing they don't discuss is breaking the brake shafts loose. Use a penetrant (PB, Kroil, etc.) and heat. You may have to use an arbor press in the worst case.

Good luck!

Ron

p.s.-Check the archives for more info.

thanks Ron, I will take your advice if required. Based on the symtoms, is a brake job inevitable or could something just be stuck???

Rob,

It sounds like your shaft bushing is seized (like mine). Try the penetrant--you just might luck out and not have to disassemble the whole thing!

Good Luck!

Ron
