Just had a 4.5 on the rictor scale earthquake here in central Virginia. The epicenter was about 28 miles west of Richmond, and about 15 miles east of me. I was wondering if anyone else felt that. The radio said it was felt from N.C to Maryland, but I kinda find that hard to believe. It was my first earthquake, and it was pretty interesting. It didn't feel like a shake as much as the ground moving and shaking at the same time. Anyway, the good news is no damage reported, and no injuries reported, thank goodness!

I did not notice it here in Winchester.

I was in Guadalajara, Mexico last winter for the 6.8 Colima quake. Now that was a real shaking.

I was in a hotel conference center about 10 miles west of Richmond; on the first rumble, it felt like the HVAC had a problem. The second longer & more intense shaking left no doubt that we weren't dealing w/ a HVAC problem! I called my wife who was about 15 miles north of Richmond; she spent 3 years in Alaska, and said right away that this was a minor earthquake, but not to worry because the cabinets didn't open up & the pictures didn't fall off the walls!

Rattled the windows in south central Va, mid-way between Lynchburg and Danville. The news reports indicated it was even stronger in the Roanoke and Salem area than here.

Yeah. And a baby quakey at that. I'll take the shakes ANYday over tornados, blizzards, hurricanes and such. Altho I gotta admire the stuff it takes to WISH for snow and then actually go out and have fun workin in it! Happy WHITE Christmas you 'N'uts!

It will be much more interesting if it's a 7.1 and you're on the fifteenth floor of a building.

That's interesting, because there was a small 2.0 earthquake in central Oklahoma yesterday.

People close to the epicenter said they heard a boom and then the ground shook. Never heard of that before, but then we don't get a lot of earthquakes around here so i'm not too knowledgable about them. Now tornados . . . :-)
