I, too , hate Virginia Winters!! (Used to love them when I was in school, hehee) I live in the Northern Neck area of Virginia, which is currently suffering from the Dreaded Yuppie Invasion! But, I know that paradise is just a plane ride away! The Philippines!! No, I shan't remove there just yet, but it's a nice place to visit for a few weeks in the winter! Last year, I read about the snows on the internet, hehe. Yes, it's a great place, but don't expect things to be just like home. There are resorts that attempt to do just that, but why travel if you don't want to deal with the natives? Sure, they have problems, but at least fireworks are legal!!And the ferries don't always sink.Contrary to belief, some of them actually make it to their destination safely. As far as the planes, that's another story. But, I only go there on vacation, and a ferry trip is like a cruise thru the islands to me. That's exactly what it is! Filipino transport is real cool, if one is adventurous enough. Ever seen a Jeepney? They are many of them over there, all vying for passengers. "A Jeepney will not leave until it is impossible to cram another person inside, or hang on outside" Adventure!! Of course, there are busses, taxis, etc. And there are farms, ranches, etc. Masbate even has a rodeo!! NO 8-N's but many Ford tractors.. I was even at the dealership in CDO. Still have the pix. I'm sure there are N's..just a matter of finding one! That gives me an excuse to return, hehehe. Of course, with cattle, you might be constrained to take off for a foreign country. Back in the Old Days, the local hired man used to take care of them, but he died. And the young ones are too busy collecting welfare to mess with cattle. So, please seed your fields with crops and split for a few weeks while they grow. I hope to fly away sometime before the end of January. I love the first snow, gives me an excuse to plow everyone's drive with the N, but after that it gets real old! And February is the &^%$# longest month of the year, despite what the calendar says! The pic was taken on Masbate a couple of trips ago. I'm sure the hammock is still there, swinging beneath Filipino skies! Good Luck!!
