I hate winter

Right now I have a inner ear infection, and an upper respitory infection that has me pretty miserable. About the only thing I like about winter in Virginia is that it kills all the bugs. I love snow, but we rarely get enough around here to do anything but make a mess. I love having some land to raise cattle on and ride my tractor around on, but the wife and I are thinking about relocating to a more hospitable cliamte. Does anyone know of a place where it dosen't drop below 50 degrees in the winter and dosen't stay in the upper 90s all summer, that is by the water, where I could buy a nice piece of land for a reasonable price (by that I mean 6-12 acres and a fairly good size house for around 250k) I ask this question here because I know if there is such a place, you folks will know about it. Also, I ask because I am thinking about the happiness of my 8n, as it dosen't like winter either.---Rob

Now Rob, think how bored you'd be without the change of season. I resently moved back to the Northern Neck of Virginia after spending the last 10 years in south Louisiana and believe me I'll take the no-see-ums over the skeeters. The Cajuns liked to joke and say there wasn't a single skeeter in St. Mary's Parish, Da's all married with children!

I, too , hate Virginia Winters!! (Used to love them when I was in school, hehee) I live in the Northern Neck area of Virginia, which is currently suffering from the Dreaded Yuppie Invasion! But, I know that paradise is just a plane ride away! The Philippines!! No, I shan't remove there just yet, but it's a nice place to visit for a few weeks in the winter! Last year, I read about the snows on the internet, hehe. Yes, it's a great place, but don't expect things to be just like home. There are resorts that attempt to do just that, but why travel if you don't want to deal with the natives? Sure, they have problems, but at least fireworks are legal!!And the ferries don't always sink.Contrary to belief, some of them actually make it to their destination safely. As far as the planes, that's another story. But, I only go there on vacation, and a ferry trip is like a cruise thru the islands to me. That's exactly what it is! Filipino transport is real cool, if one is adventurous enough. Ever seen a Jeepney? They are many of them over there, all vying for passengers. "A Jeepney will not leave until it is impossible to cram another person inside, or hang on outside" Adventure!! Of course, there are busses, taxis, etc. And there are farms, ranches, etc. Masbate even has a rodeo!! NO 8-N's but many Ford tractors.. I was even at the dealership in CDO. Still have the pix. I'm sure there are N's..just a matter of finding one! That gives me an excuse to return, hehehe. Of course, with cattle, you might be constrained to take off for a foreign country. Back in the Old Days, the local hired man used to take care of them, but he died. And the young ones are too busy collecting welfare to mess with cattle. So, please seed your fields with crops and split for a few weeks while they grow. I hope to fly away sometime before the end of January. I love the first snow, gives me an excuse to plow everyone's drive with the N, but after that it gets real old! And February is the &^%$# longest month of the year, despite what the calendar says! The pic was taken on Masbate a couple of trips ago. I'm sure the hammock is still there, swinging beneath Filipino skies! Good Luck!!

Rob, sounds like what you need is a very well built house with a very good airconditioning and heating system to maintain the temps you like year around. However the next best bet is Hiwaii.
If you really want to appreciate the country you like in, come to the Upper Peninsula of Mich along the south shore of Lake Superior. It very seldom gets to 90 in the summer, and you will almost never see average temps in the 30's in the winter. In fact we get a lot of 50's all summer long. Good luck in your quest for paradise and happy holidays. Ron

Try eastern shore of maryland or Va not to far from you now, but summer temps might be to warm for ya. but i think thats your best bet. For 250k in Akomack or somerset counties you could get a house on a 125 acres for that price.(Belive me I'v seen them that cheep good farm land to)

Is that 12.5 or125 acres? My god. If I sell my house on a 60X100 lot here in Queens, NY I could buy two of these places with plenty left for a new boat.

Just no such place in the continental USA! May have to try one of the Islands such as Fiji.

Rob-

You're welcome to move to Texas. What you describe is the Gulf Coast around Rockport/Port Aransas. I grew up just 30 miles south of there in Corpus Christi. Like fishin? I got a real nice bay boat and all I need is an excuse to go...

Rob, with the exception of reasonably priced land....I think you just described Southern California! Ever thought about the Eastern Shore of VA? Meets all of your requirements except summer heat....
