Dan, did you have the adjustable 3-brush generator that does not have a field terminal? I am sure that Jim was able to help you out on this. I am just courious what you had. I do believe I read once where someone had theirs converted some way and a field terminal added. Not sure though. I think I have the same generator and I'll admit that it only puts out about 12 amps when I adjust it to the high setting. I don't use my lights too much and so that is more than enough with the lights off.

You are correct. At some time in the past, it appears a previous owner installed a 3 brush / one wire 9N generator and what appears to be a Delco cut-off switch replacing the newer 8N10000B that came on the 1948 model originally. Jim did email me and give me a few suggestions, one of them was to modify the internal circuitry and add an isolated post to my non-field equipped generator. Jim sent me detailed info on how to perform this "surgery" to convert it to a field equipped unit - but we are trying to locate isolated posts to complete the job. Jim also said this could possibly boost the output from around 11 amps to 20 or so.

Thank you Dan. I have already put on the ($62.50) regulator from Funprojects. Seems to work ok. Going back 3 weeks, I would contact Jim about putting the field terminal on the 1 wire generator. I sure didn't know it would boost it to about 20 amps. Again, thank you for the information. I have a generator from a late model 8-N that mounts on the left side, but mine is a right side mount and they are different.
