I'm posting this with the hope that it will make someone's job easier. Recently I had to replace my starter drive, and due to inexperience, when I pulled the starter out I also pulled the armature out of the starter housing. The real problem was how to get the armature back in the starter housing (which is called the field frame in the F-04) with the springs and spring brushes in the way. Here is what I did: The cover band on the starter housing covers four rectangular holes that allow access to the brush springs and brushes. Get four stout nails. At each opening, lay a nail in the long dimension across the opening, supported on each end by the starter housing. Use an electricians tie-wrap and weave it around the spring and around the nail. Then tighten up the tie-wrap and it will lift the spring up and the tension will also hold the nail in place. To hold the brushes in place, use the same nail and another tie-wrap. Secure the second tie-wrap around the wires to the brushes and around the nail. Snug up the tie-wrap and it will hold the brushes in place. This allow you to install the armature without the springs and brushes getting in the way. Hope this helps.

Yep, wire ties are the best way I've found to do it,will try them with your nail suggestion.

That sounds pretty slick, Bob! Hope I remember that trick when I need it.
