Hi, Just redid the steering box on my 53 8N. I read the archives on this subject and have settled on using 140 wt outboard motor lube as suggested. The local boat/marine store product is 90 wt. They are a Mercury/Yamaha dealer. Can you please tell me where you got this product. Is it used by a specific outboard manufacturer.
I couldn't have got this far with this project without the help of all on this board and the info in the archives. Thanks to all.

All I remember about the tube of 140wt outboard motorboat lower gear unit (you know the one the prop attaches to) is its a white squeezeable pointed tube that I got at a local marine supply store. Along with crab cages, salmon nets, marine radios, non-skid plates and water skis and NO fishing poles?..... ....Dell

Probably a parts store will have the gear lube in the little 2 quart bottles with the pointed nipples. I know car quest does... lots of brands... 85/140 is the common weight you see.
TSC has it too. I don't think it is super critical exactly what weight you use... we just stick to something 'heavy' to help cushion those gears.

I don't recall what info Dell gave you about the oil.. but I'm sure he'll post back with info if you need it.

Thanks Soundguy,
I'll check at those places. I know we have a TSC in my area.
