First off, I want to thank all you for your great support and advise on my mysterious sputtering problems on my 9N. I also want to apologize for not keeping you all up to date on the progress. Its not an excuse, but I just recieved my logs for my log home and have not had a chance to do any trouble shooting or posting. But on Wed, I did have a chance to spray gas in the carb as she was sputtering (no change) I then hooked up a funnel contraption to the gas fitting on the carb and poured new gas into the carb, again (no change). It was kind of funny because after I checked those two things, I was sittin there cussin the old girl, and all of a sudden she ran like a top. Well for a few minutes anyway... I think she was laughing at me... I just received my new electronic parts that I am going to replace, ie condenser, points, rotor button, cap and resistor. (Lots of spare parts if this does not work). If all of this does not work, then I will take a lot of your suggestions and check for a sticking valve. Again, sorry for not keeping you all posted about my progress, I will try and do better. Thanks for all the great advise.

rob

Rob,

I don't remember all that you have done. Have you checked the valves? Could you have a couple of valves that are sticking sometimes?

Good luck,
Danny

Rob,seems to me I was reading on the Ford Board of a guy haveing a simular problem. It was either a cracked intake or a bad intake gasket. So look these 2 over good on your way to checking the valves. I thought for sure it would have been one of the filter screens. Good Luck John

John,

I am pretty sure it is not the intake because I just replaced the manifold and the gasket last weekend. Will let you know how the valves look.
thanks

Me thinks and I try not to do that to often, you need to remove your dist. and give it a complete overhaul. I had the same type of problem on mine. If you could have seen the shape that dist. was in you would wonder how the tractor ran at all.

If them parts don't fix it its the switch or the wires going from the switch to the coil. I still think you have a PHATOM short in the system
