I have a 1939 9N (serial #1741)and am looking for a supplier for the battery/fuel door and battery splash cover. The battery door doesn't have the hinges like the later models. Dennis Carpenter doesn't carry these items. Also would like to find some original style running boards. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks,

Rob

Rob..... ..the original early 9N fuel door was "friction-spring" attached. I don't know how close in dimensions it is to the later hinged mounted door. (which you'll have a whole lot better luck finding) Personally, I like the hinge-mounted door. ...BUT... if'n ya gotts yer little ol'heart set on having a fuel door just like the "original", HIRE IT DONE.

Hot-Rod body shops are always making panels by "hand" for their old Ford roadsters. Patching rusted out body parts, etc. Just tell the body guy you've got an old Ford convertable. Bring in a cardboard template to start with. Should be simple to do as there ain't no compound curves, just a simple center crease and folded edge lip. And bring $$$$..... .respectfully, Dell

Early hoods were aprox, 1/2 in. diff in width at the raised part at the hinges. We find the hinged door is too wide and if you use proper 4 spoke steering wheel the hinged door will not open past the steering wheel. BURT.

9n and 2n tractors had foot pegs only.. there are no 'original style' running boards.. as the 8n was the first N with running boards. That said.. lotsa farmers either fashioned their own, or found some to buy. Popular design is a board that hangs on the foot peg, and is attatched to the round dipstick covers by an L-shaped bracket.. etc.

I havn't seen them here.. however I have seen them in the classifieds of the n-newsletter mag.
