I am gonna try and remove the exhaust manifolds from my 76 Dodge D100 pickup this week. The heat risers inside the manifolds has gone KAPUT and is causing a leak. I have found replacement manifolds at 1A Automotive.com however, I was thinking that I could remove the heat riser entirely and weld up the holes it came out of. Anyone ever done this? Please feel free to gimmie any input on this. In the meantime I will be soaking those rusty bolts in PB Blaster. OH YEAH! I almost forgot to ask! I was thinking about replacing the bolts with studs, what do you guys think about that? Has anyone ever done that? As always I am grateful for the knowledge shared on this board!---Rob

You can weld the holes up with no problem. most likley the cross over in the manifold is stoped up any way and you will never miss the heat risers
They along with unrestricted manifold would help alot with cold drivabilty thow. Stay with the bolts. I was thinking they used two studs on eack side anyway.

Only problem I could think of using studs is side clearance. With bolts you don't have to pull the manifold back far but with the studs you may have a clearance problem. I would buy some SS or grade 8 bolts and go back with them. ray

Heat risers are there for a reason, they help the engine heat up faster so it wont falter during warm up , its your truck .

It shuts off exhaust flow on one side and diverts the flow to go threw the intake manifold under the carb and out the other side. Almost always the intake is stoped up.
