I went to the local car shop guy here in central virginia. This guy also happens to almost always have a few N's for sale, but usually really expensive; like more than four grand not restored. I stopped by to ask him if he had the elusive drawbar pin that I have been looking for. The guy hummed and hawwed for a bit and then said "let's go look"
This guy had half a dozen 8N's in various states of disrepair. Most of them looked really rough, and one was burnt to a crisp. One the last one we looked at, he found it and said "here you go". I asked him how much he wanted for it, fully expecting him to say 10 bucks, but he didn't! He said "take it, I don't need one". I was so shocked all I could do was thank him twice, and split before he changed his mind! I am thinking about going back and asking him if he could part with the one that was burnt to a crisp. How much do ya'll think I should offer him? The tires are burnt off of it, and the battery looks melted, but I can't tell much more about it, cause I didn't look at it too long. ----Rob

Your wife should see a picture of Marvin Baumann's restoration of a burn tractor. He saved all the sheet metal. UNBELIEVABLE!

I may have a picture... yep, found it. I wish I had a "before " picture.

How much of the tractor is burnt? If it is a total burn job.. it isn't worth much.. like 150-300$ cause all the seals, etc are probably ruined..

If it a hood/burn, with the chassie in good shape.. just gotta think about replacement parts costs.. and get a number in your mind compaired to a non BBQ'ed one and then go from there..

John,

Not yet. I found this guy online that overhauls the Electronic Brake Control Module for a hundred bucks. He has a 6 month guaranty. The downside is that you have to remove the control module and send it to him, and when I tried to remove it last week, I got cold, my hands got numb and I rounded the head on one of the torx screws holding it in. It's in a very funky position under the truck. Hopefully, this weekend will be a bit warmer and I can go after it with an easy out. Thanks for asking!----Rob

Depends on how long you will have to listen to "You bought another tractor? That's a tractor?! That's not a tractor.....that's a pile of junk" etc, etc when you get it home!! I'd just ask him what he wants for it so you won't be bidding against yourself. Then, get back on the board here & see what the consensus is. Reminds me of the time a few years ago when my wife & I went to a wedding held at an old mill site. The mill had burnt years ago, but the old engine, complete with gears, a boiler, etc, was still on the site, and it was huge! Like the size of an 18 - wheeler! Well, I was just busy telling my wife how cool that would be sitting at the end of the drive, along side the pasture fence.....well, all you married guys can identify with the look I got. And the response: "I'm surprised you're interested.....it doesn't have 4 wheels". Cold, cold....
