Anyone have one of these? TSC sells them for 250 bucks or so, and I was thinking about getting one, but I would like to know how much you could do with one. Like for instance, could you dig it in the untilled hard soil, and get as deep as a plow? This thing has what looks like a manual trip handle, can you guys advise me on how that works? Thanks for any feedback or comments!--Rob

I recently bought this scoop and it has become my favorite implement It will dig hard clay, move rocks and firewood.

Rob,
Try the archives for "scoop" over at "implement alley." Some good general discussions and comparisons. Click to have them lined up by date. Keeps the threads together better.

I have one and I like it and it's very useful.
I have to "ditto" what souNdguy said in his post and can't add much other than to say it works a lot better on my Farmall Super C (because of the live hydraulics) than it does on my 2N.

I've got the 30" scoop and it's great. SouNdguy gave you great info on this, especially the pvc pipe extension handle idea. ( A mod I'll do to mine ASAP ) I agree with everything said, but I have also had good luck pulling it forward in shallow scrapes -- recently deepened our catfish pond a few feet this way. North TX is in a drought and I was able to get my 8N and scoop down into a good part of the bowl and take out the dirt, which is more like a densely packed clay. Took a few days and patience is the key. To deep a bite and it would bog down, long shallow scrapes until the scoop was full and it worked great. FWIW

I've got a 30" dirt scoop. Works best digging from a pile.. backing into it.

Works ok being pulled to pick up windrowed or loose to semipacked soil. Works so-so backing into packed soil. If I had to 'dig' with it.. I might first run my box blade with rippers down the path i was diffing.. or plow first.. or cisc first.

However ..yes.. it will dig... A swimming pool..no.. a basement with lots and lots of time.. yes.. I've seen pics of someone who has done it from the n-newsletter...

Like I say.. better at moving stockpiled material. i figure I was taking 500# bites with the scoop.

Manual trip hadle takes getting used to I shoved a piece of 3/4" pvc over it to make a long lever.. and then greased the trip point.. worked decent.

Using it with non-live hyds was a learning experience. In that case.. stockpil digging wasn't too cool.. had to exactly ballance rear wheels stalling at the pile with the lift going up.. digging with the bucket forward, and dragging it full worked better in that case. Course with the NAA, digging the pile was no problem..
I'm sure you'll get lots more advice..

( from my back porch to the fence was a fairly steep drop off the contractor left. I used the scoop to transport dirt from about 300' away where the contractor left me an 18yd stockpile in my pasture.. I built up and and re-contoured that area, making a smooth gradual incline from the back porch to my fence line 20' away... Took moving loads of dirt for 2 days.. then smoothing on and off with the box blade... turned out 100% perfect... (surprised me.. )
