i just put my short block together and while checking rod side clearance i could wiggle it back and forth enough to hear a clunk!!!! the feeler guage says .016 ... the book calls for .004 to .011. my question is is there a shim or something that could be ammended. i got the crank back from the shop and all rods were put in the right holes in the right direction. anyone have any ideas? is .016 really a big deal?

I don't like to see alot of side clearance as it throws a lot more oil on the cylinders for the oil rings to scrap off. But in the world of Hot Rod engines with after market parts it is common to see .025 - .030 ( I like to see .008 - .016 ) i've even had as high as .060 - .080. So to answer your question, you are in good shape. Jason
