It's nice to see there are others here who have had their N's for many decades. My grandparents bought their 1943 2N in the early '50's. Everyone is fuzzy on the exact year, but my Dad (born in 1945) doesn't ever remember not having it. It's spent its life since then on my grandparents' farm near (now in) Lincoln, Nebraska. They bought the farm as a dairy farm in 1938, but shortly thereafter realized that my grandpa was alergic to cows! It's been just a big acreage ever since (they own many apartments now). I wouldn't say that the 2N has had a hard life -- just mowing 10 or so acres of grass on & off, grading the lane periodically, and sometimes scooping snow. It surely hasn't been maintained well, though, and it shows. My dad had it "profesionally" rebuilt a few years ago, but after fixing things all this week, I'm not impressed with the guy's handiwork. What kind of rebuilder doesn't replace ancient spark plug wires, distributor cap, or frayed ORIGINAL starter cable? Since I'm the family gearhead, I'm just getting it to run reliably at the moment. Someday we may restore it, but it'll always be a working tractor for us. It's pretty much original right now except for the 12V conversion and the K&N air filter. There's a lot of fond memories with this tractor. My dad and I both grew up on this farm. Many of my cousins learned to drive on that 2N when they came to visit. I remember sitting on grandpa's lap, holding my teddy bear, while he graded the lane. My grandparents are still with us & living on that same farm, but we're not sure for how long (88 & 86 yrs old). When they pass, we'll subdivide the farm (40 acres inside the city limits gets expensive), and my family will likely move out to a 1-acre lot on what's left of the farm (right next to my parents' current house out there). My goal is to get the N running well enough that my dad & I can use it to scoop our driveways for a few more decades and provide my kids (4th generation) with fond memories of this reliable old workhorse. Did I say 4th generation? Make that 5th. My great-grandma lived on the farm with my grandparents during the 2N's tenure (after her husband died).
