Dad bought his 1947 2-n in 1953( I was 3). He died in 1998 and mom wanted to sell all his old farm Stuff. 2 flat tires, dead battery, motor wouldn't start, bad gas. Boy am I glad I didn't let the old girl go. I fixed the tires, rebuilt the carb, new battery, still 6-volt, new lift piston, rebuilt governor because someone here said I should, new 1 and 3/8 pto because Dell said I needed the ORC for my brush hog, Zane Thang. I just wish DAD could see it now. It does need new paint but runs great, starts great. Thank you guys. I know I didn't have to have the new PTO shaft , but I like it.

I came along in Sept. of 43 and Dad Bought the 44 2N the following May, Dad has been goon now for 12 years. My second, a 41 9N I got about 5-6 year ago when I downsized the farm and traded a larger Ford on it as it would work with my other 2N implements.

It's nice to see there are others here who have had their N's for many decades. My grandparents bought their 1943 2N in the early '50's. Everyone is fuzzy on the exact year, but my Dad (born in 1945) doesn't ever remember not having it. It's spent its life since then on my grandparents' farm near (now in) Lincoln, Nebraska. They bought the farm as a dairy farm in 1938, but shortly thereafter realized that my grandpa was alergic to cows! It's been just a big acreage ever since (they own many apartments now).

I wouldn't say that the 2N has had a hard life -- just mowing 10 or so acres of grass on & off, grading the lane periodically, and sometimes scooping snow. It surely hasn't been maintained well, though, and it shows.

My dad had it "profesionally" rebuilt a few years ago, but after fixing things all this week, I'm not impressed with the guy's handiwork. What kind of rebuilder doesn't replace ancient spark plug wires, distributor cap, or frayed ORIGINAL starter cable? Since I'm the family gearhead, I'm just getting it to run reliably at the moment. Someday we may restore it, but it'll always be a working tractor for us. It's pretty much original right now except for the 12V conversion and the K&N air filter.

There's a lot of fond memories with this tractor. My dad and I both grew up on this farm. Many of my cousins learned to drive on that 2N when they came to visit. I remember sitting on grandpa's lap, holding my teddy bear, while he graded the lane. My grandparents are still with us & living on that same farm, but we're not sure for how long (88 & 86 yrs old). When they pass, we'll subdivide the farm (40 acres inside the city limits gets expensive), and my family will likely move out to a 1-acre lot on what's left of the farm (right next to my parents' current house out there). My goal is to get the N running well enough that my dad & I can use it to scoop our driveways for a few more decades and provide my kids (4th generation) with fond memories of this reliable old workhorse.

Did I say 4th generation? Make that 5th. My great-grandma lived on the farm with my grandparents during the 2N's tenure (after her husband died).

I can't remember a single day that the thing wasn't about! Dad bought it new in the early 1950's, and it's been here ever since, except for trips to the dealers for service! I actually met the fellow who sold it to Dad back in the day...Farnham Motors in Farnham, Va. He remembered the transaction...dead now, just like Dad. But it's still running, better than ever. I converted it to 12v, installed electronic ignition, other than that, she's stock. Top pic shows it with the AC Roto-baler..I'm the little guy you can see the back. All the folks in that pic are dead, except me, of course! Bottom pic is Dad back in the 50's discing. Still have the disc...but in poor shape. Lotta memories in that tractor....easily coulda killed me, but did not! Used it today, scratched up a garden, moved stuff about, etc.

I've had my 49 8N for three years now and its my first one. I was raised around farms and tractors, but still feel new to them. I was born in 1953 and raised next to a Old John Deere store in Fernbridge, Calif. and I can still see all them steel wheeled tractors sitting everywhere. My father has been gone since 1989 and wish he could see my 8N. I'm sure he could tell me some stories about them. My father was my hero but taken too soon for me.

My dad bought the one I have in 1988 I believe,he had bought some property and wanted something to help put out several acres of "garden" with. I've been using it since then, but he passed away in 2002 so it became mine. It's not the main brush hoggin tractor anymore,so I plan to give it a thorough refurbishment just because he loved it so much.
