I remember I read a post a day or so ago about the length of a generator in question. If I recall correctly, the genny was too close to the oil filter?
Anywho, I took a look at mine today and noticed that mine was the same way, only someone had welded a small tab on to the bracket to move it over an inch or two, and only used one bolt. Hope that sheds some light on the subject!!---Rob

I looked at your generator and it is mounted wrong? Here is a 8N generator & bracket that fits your engine. Mark H

I'm not sure if this helps or not but I found this pic on ebay. The ad claims original generator and bracket.

I went out and checked out the filter situation on my 1951 side-mount 8N that needs restoring. Generator is missing, so I don't know what length it was.

The cylinder head does not have 4 oil filter mounting holes, as someone suggested in a previous post. However, there is a large, rectangular, flat raised area or "boss" where the front oil filter bolt hole is, and the hole is drilled way to the back of the raised area.

The centerline of the front oil filter bolt hole is 5-5/8" rearward from the machined surface at the front of the block, where the waterpump mounts. Does anyone have that dimension for a front-mount series?

Hey Rob, Yeah, That was me that posted that question. Mine is secured with one bolt as well. It seems to work fine (for now) but it's just a bit annoying. I'll be rebuilding my 51 later this year so I have that on the list for something to fix.
Regards,
Tom
