I HAVE A 52 8N WITH THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS AND I CANT FIGURE OUT WHATS WRONG. AFTER THE TRACTOR HAS WARMED UP, IT STARTS TO MISS LIKE IT IS RUNNING OUT OF GAS. THIS HAPPENS WITH OR WITHOUT LOAD APPLIED. WHEN THE TRACTOR SITS FOR A SHORT TIME (NOT RUNNING) IT WILL START UP AND RUN FOR A SHORT TIME THEN IT STARTS UP AGAIN. I HAVE CLEANED BOTH GAS SCREENS (FLOAT/INTERNAL CARB),CLEANED ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS,READJUSTED POINTS,PUT IN A NEW CONDENCER. WHAT HAVE I MISSED ? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THERE COMMENTS. WITH YOUR HELP, THIS IS WHAT I FOUND AND FIXED: 1) THE IGNITION TERMINALS WERE BADLY CORRODED. ( DIDN'T THINK TO KEEP THOSE TIGHT,BRIGHT AND SHINEY). 2) THOUGH I DID HAVE A STEADY STREAM OF GAS COMING FROM THE PETCOCK OF THE GAS TANK, A SHOT OF CARB CLEANER BACK FLUSHED THE VALVE AND GAVE ME A LARGER STREAM OF GAS. NOW IT RUNS LIKE A "FORD" SHOULD. THANKS SO MUCH BOB

BIG BOB..... ....aintchur carb! Your described time related ignition problem is consistant with BAD SWITCH. N-Ignition switches are NOT the most robust and usually go bad after about 15 minutes of warm-up time. You doubt? Have a premade jumper wire with alligator clippies and when the engine dies, just jumper the ignition switch at the terminal block leads under your ammeter..... ...Dell, the sparkiemeister

sounds like a gas problem. make sure you have good flow of gas. Make sure that the sediment bowl screen isn't plugged. Also take the plug out of bottom of carb and make sure you have a good flow of gas into a bucket or something for 30-60 seconds. Also could be a coil heating up and shorting out. And also could be a battery that isn't getting charged properly and getting low. But since you didn't say anything about low battery on startup that probably isn't it but doesn't hurt to check. I Also hear that the ingnition switches give some people trouble, but that would be more intermittent and/or random. So for my two cents make sure of the gas first then if thats not it probably the coil....But wait for a few more post. There are lots of guys here with lots of experience that may have a better idea

When it starts to die, pull the choke a bit.. if it clears up.. open the hood door and slowly remove the gas cap.. if it goes back to normal, and you can close the choke.. you have a plugged gas tank vent, and had vacume on the gas tank.

To check for good gas flow, take a glas jar and pull the plug on the bottom of hte carb.. you should get a steady pee stream in the glas jar that does not taper off.. This also lets you check for any dirt and or water that may have slipped into the bowl while you weren't looking!

Might also jumper across your ignition switch.. could be a worn out switch and the contacts heat up and drag the system down...

Let us know what you find.

Also.. as a good general check to determine between electrical or gas, try starting on ether right at the carb mouth.. if it starts on ether it is probably fuel related *except* in the case of real weak sparkies.. as ehter will fire even with weak sparkies*

good luck
