I want to paint my exhaust manifold, muffler and tail pipe without going through too much trouble. I bought a can of 1500 degree spray paint but the curing procedure is a hassle because I'm not taking the manifold off and the 9N won't fit in the oven. I saw some 500 degree spray paint. Do you think that would work or does the temperature of the components get higher than 500 degrees? I'm not looking for perfection. I'm doing a 20/20 paint job so obviously I'm not too particular.

I used BBQ black in a rattle can... says 1500' I did an 'on machine' cure with it. Masked it off.. painted... etc.

After spraying my manifold I let the tractor run a few minutes and shut it down.

So far I've done the stack extension on my diesel NH 1920.. and it shows NO signs of paint peeling.

I've also done the exhaust manifold on my JD-B.. and it has run for a few good hours since and shows no signs of decay.

My 1966 IH cub also has BBQ black on the manifiold, and hours upon hours of mowing with it that way..

For my 2n, I shot everything with fergy grey.. and the paint on the top of the manifold has turned a nice greyish brown patina.. I kinda like it, and plan on leaving it that way.

Bob - Manifolds get lots hotter than 500F. When you are working your tractor hard they can even glow red in the dark. I used a product from the POR-15 people called Black Velvet that is sposed to be good for 1200F. It hasn't burnt off yet but I don't think it would last if the manifold were actually glowing.

I used Rustoleum stove and fireplace spray paint. Worked great.

Good luck,
Dan
